PAVANE is an art project that explores the interaction between a thin rescue blanket and the surrounding landscape.

PAVANE

Maurice Ravel composed in 1899: 'Pavane pour une infante défunte' (Pavane for a dead princess), a work that is, in my opinion, both poignant and beautiful. The "Pavane" in Ravel's composition refers to a slow processional dance from the Renaissance that was danced by the European aristocracy.

In this project I explore the interaction between the rescue blanket and the surrounding landscape. The light is reflected when it rests on a branch, when it moves in the wind or when it floats in the water. I feel that in Ravel's piece there is a melancholy and a sense of loss. Similarly, the rescue blanket becomes a portal to these feelings.

This project will live on. Currently, the images are available for purchase as posters. I have also printed these four motifs as photo engravings in a limited edition.

I hope these images can mean something to others as they have to me.

For I the path direct had failed to keep."
