PAVANE is an art project where the interplay between a thin rescue blanket and the surrounding landscape is explored.

PAVANE

In 1899, Maurice Ravel composed: "Pavane pour une infante défunte" (Pavane for a dead princess). In my opinion, a both poignant and beautiful piece. “Pavane” in Ravel's composition refers to a slow processional dance from the Renaissance that was danced among the European aristocracies.

In this project, I explore the interplay between the rescue blanket and the surrounding landscape. The light is reflected when it rests on a branch, when it moves in the wind, or when it floats in the water. I feel that in Ravel's piece there is a melancholy and a sense of longing. In the same way, the rescue blanket becomes a portal to these feelings.

This project will live on. Currently, images are available for purchase as posters. I have also printed these four motifs as photogravures in a limited edition.

I hope these images can mean something to others as they have done for me.

PAVANE V

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.
